Wahlberg at Worlds, a $60,000 Moneyball series and a Bangkok Open: the pro pickleball calendar fills up
Short answer: Mark Wahlberg headlines the MUNICIPAL Celebrity Pickleball Showdown on November 5 at the 2026 Opendoor Pickleball World Championships, the APP Moneyball Series runs four $15,000 stops from October 30, and the APP Asia Bangkok Open runs November 17 to 22.

The pro pickleball calendar for the rest of 2026 is filling up on three levels at once: a celebrity night at the world championships in Texas, a prize-money series for players trying to turn pro, and a new tour stop in Bangkok. Here is each event, with the dates and details published by the organizers.
Worlds week: the MUNICIPAL Celebrity Pickleball Showdown
The 2026 Opendoor Pickleball World Championships run in Texas, and the PPA Tour has announced that actor Mark Wahlberg will headline the MUNICIPAL Celebrity Pickleball Showdown during the week. The exhibition is set for Thursday, November 5, at 7 p.m. Central on the Powerball Championship Court at Brookhaven Country Club, and Tennis Channel will broadcast it live.
According to the announcement, Wahlberg will lead a group of celebrities and sports personalities who will play alongside the Carvana PPA Tour's top pros. More participants will be named in the coming weeks. MUNICIPAL, the brand Wahlberg co-founded, is the title sponsor, and Corient is a supporting partner. Wahlberg said the pickleball community "aligns with the founding principles of MUNICIPAL: dream, plan, hustle, repeat." MUNICIPAL CEO Michael Pratt said the sponsorship introduces the brand to what he called America's fastest-growing sport.
The PPA also gave some figures for last year's world championships: more than 60,000 fans attended, and a record 4,400 participants from 38 countries played over 6,000 matches during the week. Those are the organizer's numbers, and they set the bar for this year's edition. Tickets for the showdown are sold through Tixr, while week-long passes, clinics and other programming are available through the event's own site.
Celebrity exhibitions are not tournament pickleball, and nobody should expect them to be. They are a way to bring in people who do not follow the tour, which fits the sport's recent approach of mixing high-level play with entertainment. Whether the broadcast numbers reflect that will be known after the event.
APP Moneyball Series: $60,000 and a path to the tour
Further down the ladder, the Association of Pickleball Players announced on October 6 the first four stops of the APP Moneyball Series, hosted with Pickleball Kingdom, an indoor club network. Each stop guarantees $15,000, for $60,000 across the series. The schedule is:
- October 30 to November 1: Ocala, Florida - November 27 to 29: Cincinnati area (Mason), Ohio - December 18 to 20: North Aurora, Illinois - December 28 to 30: Austell, Georgia
Five divisions are played at each stop: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles. In singles, first place earns $1,000, second $600 and third $275. Doubles prize amounts are doubled, with $2,000 for first, $1,200 for second and $550 for third. Players also pick up APP ranking points, and the series is pitched as a route toward a pro contract on the APP Tour.
APP founder Ken Herrmann said the series brings the pathway "closer to the players who are ready to pursue it." Pros Allison Harris and Andre Mick are the player ambassadors and will act as contacts for entrants. The APP says it will announce the 2027 schedule late this year, and registration is open for all four stops.
The prize structure is worth a second look. Even a first-place singles finish pays $1,000, which does not cover much travel for a four-day event. The value for most entrants is the ranking points and the competition, not the cash, and the series is aimed at players who live within driving distance of one of the four clubs.
APP Asia Bangkok Open: November 17 to 22
The third event is overseas. The APP Asia Tour added the Bangkok Open 2026, which runs November 17 to 22 at the ALM x IMPACT Tennis and Sport Centre in Bangkok. Pickleball News Asia reports that international pros, leading Asian players and local amateurs will all compete, and registration is open through a tournament page on SportsSync.
The tour has been expanding across Asia. In July it held the Leapmotor APP Asia Penang Open, where Australia's Roos Van Reek and Vietnam's Quang Duong were the standout players. Bangkok gives Thai players a chance to meet international opposition without leaving home, which is the reason these stops exist.
What to watch
Taken together, the three announcements show the calendar widening. Worlds in Texas is the sport's biggest annual stage, with a famous guest. The Moneyball Series gives mid-level players more places to compete between major events. Bangkok adds to a growing Asia circuit. If you plan to attend or enter any of them, the dates above are the ones to mark, and the organizers' pages are the place to confirm entry rules and ticket details before you book travel.
