Virginia Beach Open: Fahey takes double gold as Sewing, Schupp and Martinez Vich win first titles
Short answer: Kate Fahey won women's singles and mixed doubles at the Virginia Beach Open on Sunday, while Sofia Sewing, Elliott Schupp and Jaume Martinez Vich all collected their first career PPA Tour titles and John Lucian Goins took men's singles without dropping a game all week.

Kate Fahey picked the perfect weekend to have the weekend of her life. The soon-to-be 30-year-old left the Mojo Energy Pouches Virginia Beach Open with two gold medals on Sunday, winning women's singles and mixed doubles for the first two-title event of her career, on a Championship Sunday that also delivered first career PPA Tour titles for Sofia Sewing, Elliott Schupp and Jaume Martinez Vich.
Fahey doubles up before her birthday
Fahey started her day on Humana Championship Court in the women's singles final against No. 21 seed Helena Jansen Fink, who had played the tournament of her life to reach a first PPA Tour final, including a stunning comeback win over Sofia Sewing in the semifinals. The final itself was one-way traffic in game one, and though Jansen Fink pushed hard in the second, Fahey closed it out 11-1, 11-9.
She was back later in the afternoon for mixed doubles with first-time partner Eric Oncins against No. 4 seeds Catherine Parenteau and Riley Newman, and that final turned into an instant classic. After dropping the first game 11-13, Fahey and Oncins leveled it 11-4, then fell behind 2-8 in the decider. From there they produced a 9-1 closing run to take the title 11-13, 11-4, 11-9. It was Fahey's first doubles title on the PPA Tour and Oncins' second career mixed doubles crown. She turns 30 on Monday.
Sewing's long Sunday pays off
Nobody earned gold the hard way quite like Sofia Sewing. In the morning semifinal, she and Catherine Parenteau saved three match points to get past Mari Humberg and Zoey Weil. A few hours later the top seeds beat Alix Truong and Layne Sleeth 11-8, 11-6 in the women's doubles final.
The win gives Sewing her first career PPA Tour title. For Parenteau it is a first women's doubles gold of 2026 after silvers in Las Vegas and Chicago alongside Hurricane Tyra Black, while Truong and Sleeth leave with silver in their first final as a partnership.
First titles for Schupp and Martinez Vich
Men's doubles belonged to a brand-new partnership. Elliott Schupp and Jaume Martinez Vich, playing their first tournament together, beat No. 3 seeds Noe Khlif and Riley Newman 11-4, 4-11, 11-4 in the final. It was Schupp's first appearance in a PPA final and Martinez Vich's eleventh, and the title is the first for both men. Martinez Vich very nearly made it two on the day, reaching the men's singles final as well.
Goins rolls without dropping a game
Waiting for him there was John Lucian Goins, and the final was never close. Goins won 11-5, 11-3 to collect his third career PPA Tour singles title and his first since 2025, after semifinal exits in Las Vegas and Chicago over the past two weeks. The numbers behind the run are remarkable: six matches, zero games lost.
What it means
Virginia Beach was billed as a week for new faces, and the finals delivered. Four of Sunday's gold medalists - Sewing, Schupp, Martinez Vich and, in doubles, Fahey - had never won in their discipline before, and Jansen Fink's run from No. 21 seed to the singles final gave the week its best undercard story. The tour now heads overseas, with the PPA Asia Swing's Hong Kong Slam up next starting Monday at Kai Tak Arena.
